Blanket Distribution by Youths

This coming November will mark a sacred milestone for devotees across Nepal and around the world, the 100th Birthday of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. In His honour, Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisation Nepal is holding a series of programmes and service activities throughout the centenary year, each reflecting Swami’s message of love and selfless service. Among these many offerings, one simple yet significant initiative is being led by the Youth and Pre-Youth wings: the distribution of 700 blankets to the Narayans sleeping without shelter.

The preparation for this seva began on 23rd November 2024, Swami’s birthday, when members of the Organisation launched a year-long collection drive. The funds are being raised through the practice of Ceiling on Desires, a principle Swami lovingly taught, to consciously give up what we do not truly need, and use those savings to help others. Whether it is a meal skipped at a restaurant, a small luxury set aside, or a habit of waste reduced, each act of sacrifice becomes a drop in the ocean of love. As Swami often said, “Just as drops make an ocean, little acts of sacrifice make a sea of love.” This collective spirit will make it possible to wrap 700 people in warmth next winter. While this blanket distribution is just one of the many programmes planned for the centenary year, it captures the essence of Swami’s life and message: Love All, Serve All. Each activity, whether big or small, forms part of a larger offering of gratitude at His Divine Lotus Feet. As devotees engage in these different acts of service, feeding the hungry, caring for the sick, teaching the young, and protecting the environment, they follow the example of the One whose physical life was a continuous outpouring of compassion. This November, the blanket seva will be one drop in that vast ocean of service, yet, as Swami taught, when many drops come together, they create a tide strong enough to touch every shore. In serving others, we serve Him, and in loving others, we live His message.
